When it comes to my studio, I’m starting to feel like I’m stuck in Groundhog Day, repeating the same work every day with a few slight variations and no end in sight. But after I stopped working last night, I took some time to take inventory of what I still need to do, and I’m actually making progress. I’m ready to finish this room! There’s still a lot to do, but I’ll do my best to finish this room by the end of the month so I can move on.
When I talk about finishing this room, I’m not including the studio bathroom. This will be a special project and I plan to work on it as soon as the studio is finished. But I have no chance of getting a studio And The bathroom will be completed by the end of this month. I’m sure now. But I think I will probably finish the studio by the end of the month.
Over the last couple of working days, I’ve been trying to paint the rest of the ceiling. It was a much bigger job than I expected, even with the scaffolding. I had to do quite a bit of cleaning and reorganizing before I started, and I still had a lot of big stuff to work around. So far, I have painted most of the ceiling, the mural side of the room with this strip blue ceiling still needs to be painted.
After I finish the ceiling, painting the rest of the walls will be fun. This roof is a bear, though. i came*This close* To hire it, but I feel the need to prove that I can do it.
I also have some trim to finish – baseboards and door casing around both doors. The door to the right of the office area cabinets (currently covered) still needs to be cut and those areas still need baseboards.
And then there’s a door to the long blank wall that still needs to be cut and it also needs baseboards.
Then paint those two doors.
The bases on both of my work tables need to be painted. They’re going from this bright green to eggplant.
And then my desk needs a makeover, the black on the paint swatch cabinet needs to be painted white and my desk chair needs to be reupholstered.
The cabinets in the office corner of the studio are mostly done, but there are still some finishing touches. I need to install all the door knobs and drawer pulls and install the window shade. I’m still waiting for the window shade to be delivered and I already know the company forgot to cut the shade to my custom measurements. But apparently, they won’t order a replacement until I receive the first one and confirm it doesn’t fit. *sigh*
And of course, I still have to make a decision about what to do with the wall around the windows and the back of the cubbies. Regardless of that decision, I still need to add lights to the cubes and finish the electrical stuff. I still have four electrical outlets that need to be installed inside the cabinets.
I have two outlets that need to be installed on opposite sides of the room, and then there are the decorative items. I’m still trying to work out in my mind how I want to handle the long, blank wall, but I think my plan is coming together. Then I need to print and frame the landscape design to go on the wall next to my desk.
Finally, I need to make the pendant light go above my desk. I have already started about it. After some figuring, I decided that the light needed 1300 tasting spoons (that’s 500 more than the gradient pinwheel artwork needed!), so I already cut the handles of all 1300 wood tasting spoons.
But now each of them must be sanded and shaped so that it is not obvious that they have handles. I have only sanded most of it so far…
… So it’s going to be a very time-consuming project. But quite honestly, I love projects like that. I sit outside on Monday during the eclipse and make sand spoons. The time from first contact to last contact is 2 hours and 40 minutes. I don’t want to miss it, but I’m not someone who can just sit for 2 hours and 40 minutes doing nothing.
I’m sure there will be a few other smaller projects that I haven’t thought of right now. In fact, I’m sure the floor needs some touchups, and some of the cabinet doors and drawers need some readjusting. I’m sure there will be other things.
So here is the punch list:
- Finish painting the ceiling and walls;
- install and paint baseboards;
- Install and paint door casings on both doors;
- Paint both doors;
- paint base on work tables;
- Add a painted desk and two drawers;
- Paint Swatch Paint the black parts of the cabinet white;
- Terminate wiring electrical outlets;
- Add lights to the cubbies;
- Finish trim on office area cabinets;
- Install a window shade;
- Reupholster desk chair;
- Make the pendant light;
- frame and hang landscape design;
- Decorate a long, blank wall;
- Clean and touchup paint on the floor;
- Finish adjustable doors and drawers;
- Install drawer pulls and door knobs.
Each one seems simple enough, but looking at the whole list makes me wonder if there is any possible way I can finish it by the end of the month. I’ll give it my best shot, though! I’m ready to finish this room and move on!
