Adolescence is an age that sees many changes. This not only changes your voice but also your skin.
It is common to experience changes in your skin during puberty. Along with these skin changes, the problem of pimples and acne increases. Hence, it requires good skin care. This problem can be avoided to some extent if you have good skin care. So let us know how you use skin care as a teenager.
Dermatologist Dr. Kalpana Solanki of Clinique Dermatech shares more about this. She shares some of the causes of teenage acne and some tips for it.
Why do teenagers get acne?
Hormonal changes
Puberty causes acne because the body undergoes many hormonal changes, especially the increase in androgen hormones such as testosterone. These hormones stimulate sebaceous glands, causing an increase in sebum production.
Excessive production of sebum
Sebaceous glands in the body produce sebum, which helps keep our skin smooth, explains Dr. Kalpana Solanki. Increased androgens during puberty also increase sebum production. Excess sebum combines with dead skin cells, clogging pores and exacerbating acne.
Bacterial growth
Propionibacterium acnes is a type of bacteria that lives on the skin. When hair follicles become clogged with excess sebum and dead skin cells, these bacteria can spread inside the follicles and cause inflammation.

Let’s learn some tips for teenage skin care.
Use of skin cleanser
The first step in skin care for teens is to use a mild cleanser every morning and night. Teenagers have very sensitive skin and any harsh cleanser can irritate if you have acne, so you should choose a cleanser that contains gentle ingredients.
If you suffer from acne, a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide will prevent acne breakouts, while a cleanser with hyaluronic acid will help moisturize the skin.
Using sunscreen is important
Dr. Kalpana Solanki says that the use of sunscreen is very important for people of all ages. But you also need to remember that you need to use sunscreen at any time of the month. Applying sunscreen protects your skin from sun damage. But don’t use any kind of sunscreen, instead you should use only chemical free sunscreen.
Daily humidity
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, you may want to avoid moisturizers because you want to avoid adding more moisture and oil to your skin. But, for oily or acne-prone skin, daily moisturizing is great.
When your skin is dry, it produces more oil, which leads to acne. But when you moisturize your skin daily, you can avoid skin dryness and irritation, which helps clear your skin.
Keep your skin care routine very simple
The best tip for teenage skin care is to keep your routine very simple. Use only a few simple products, don’t over exfoliate and avoid touching or scratching your skin. The harsher things you use on your skin, the more damaged it is.
