Who doesn’t love a plate full of gulal and dastarkhan garnished with gujia, thandai and snacks? Even though they say that they will not play Holi in the morning, they immerse themselves in the world of colors till the evening. It doesn’t take long for the evening to turn colorful from top to bottom. Amidst all this, our skin and hair suffer a lot. Synthetic dyes are harmful to skin and hair. Here’s how to protect your skin and hair before playing Holi

  1. Apply warm coconut oil on your face, neck, hands and feet to reduce the damage to your skin caused by the effects of colors on Holi. You can also use olive oil instead of coconut oil.
  2. Apply the oil well on your hair from root to ends and massage for 1 minute. This allows the oil to penetrate into your hair follicles.
  3. Do not leave hair open. Dyes can damage hair, so braid them or you can even make a ponytail.
  4. Wear full sleeve clothing to protect from sunlight. Be sure to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen on exposed areas. Keep it in your bag and apply sunscreen every three hours if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time.
  5. Apply coconut oil or lip balm on your lips as well. Doing this will prevent the lips from drying out.
  6. Clean your nails and moisturize them. To protect from discoloration, apply dark nail paint on the nails.

After Holi, repair your skin and hair like this

1 Wash your face

First rinse off the dried color thoroughly. After this wash your face, nose and ears clean with water. Do not rub the skin too much when removing the dyes. Take some oil and apply it on the face and then massage it well. Clean the face with a clean cloth. Apply a gentle cleanser on the face and massage gently. Wash your face with water.

2. Apply a mask of peanut flour, honey and curd on the face.

A mask of gram flour, honey and curd not only works as a good cleanser but also helps in exfoliation. It does not deplete the natural oil of the skin. This mask removes color and dirt, leaving the skin soft and moisturized.

Mix 1 teaspoon of gram flour, curd and honey in a bowl. Apply it on the face and neck and wait for it to dry. After this, wet your hands and massage. Wash the face thoroughly with cold water.

3. Apply a nourishing mask on the hair

To remove the dye from the hair, wash the head and hair with plenty of water. Take the help of herbal shampoo to remove the color. After this, don’t forget to apply conditioner to your hair. When the hair is washed, wrap it in a towel and squeeze out the excess water. Next, make a nourishing mask by mixing green tea, yogurt and aloe vera.

Apply it on wet hair and leave it for 30 minutes and then wash it off with water. You can also wash your hair with green tea. It helps to hydrate the lost shine. It also protects the hair from dryness.

After Holi, take hot oil treatment once a week. It reduces the effect of colors and improves the health of scalp and hair.

4 Pay special attention to the lips and nails

Colors can also affect lips and nails. To remove color on lips, apply coconut oil and massage gently. Clean the lips with cotton. After that, apply honey on the lips and keep it for 10 minutes and then wash it off with a cloth.

Pour warm water into a bowl to remove the color stuck to the nails. Add lemon juice, salt and a little shampoo and mix. Soak your fingers in it for 10 minutes and scrub the nails with lemon peel. After washing hands, apply oil on nails or take care of them with herbal hand cream.
