The doors and drawer fronts for the office area cabinets are complete! I finished them all last night, but I didn’t have enough time to install them all. I’m disappointed that I ran out of time, but I’m very excited about this progress and can’t wait to show you.

Doesn’t it look good so far?! Remember this is the ultimate goal…

So to reach that ultimate goal from what I have now, I have a lot of work to do. Obviously, I still need to build that bridge with Cubis. But I have to do a lot of work to the actual cabinet boxes to start filling in this area between the cabinet and the wall and finish building them.

Then I add a similar extension to this side of the cabinet so that both sides are the same width.

Then what I do on the outside of the right cabinet is to be repeated on the inside areas so that the upper cabinets are symmetrical.

I also need to add a strip of filler to these areas between the bottom drawers and the side cabinets.

And then there’s the bottom. I still don’t know how I’m going to finish the bottom part. Do I want tokic like cabinets on the mural wall? Do I want to finish these without a tock and have the bookcase finished? I have no idea yet. But I figure it out as I go.

These cabinet doors and drawer fronts are much easier and faster than the ones on the mural wall because I didn’t actually use gold leaf on these. I used this gold leaf tape instead.

I tested this on other cabinets a while back by adding a strip to one of the doors to see if it looked different from the original gold leaf. I was surprised that it looked the same! Even in person, you can’t tell the difference.

So I used it exclusively on this section of the cabinets, and quite honestly, I’ll probably go back and redo the other doors and drawer fronts with this tape as well. This tape does not develop dark spots like gold leaf. I couldn’t believe how fast I got all the doors and drawer fronts done!

If I had used gold leaf, it would have taken me a weekend to finish, and it wouldn’t have looked that good.

So I’m absolutely thrilled with how these turned out. However, I forgot to pre-drill the holes for the door pulls. I hate that, because I always want to do that before painting.

I’m sure I’ll have time to put up the rest of the drawer fronts, but that’s something we can look forward to later this week or next week.

So that’s progress. You’ll have to use your imagination for now to “see” what the finished area will look like, but I’m well on my way to having a finished office area.
