During our stay at St. Simons, we drove through Brunswick and across the bridge to Jekyll Island, a 30-minute drive from St. Louis. Simons. It is well worth the trip! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we had a perfect day. I went there for the first time in 2013 when I went to a conference on Jekyll Island. It was also a rainy season and it rained almost the entire time we were there. An iconic elegant resort steeped in history dating back to 1888, I was happy to go back on a beautiful sunny day to see the island and the Jekyll Island Club Resort.
The beautiful Sidney Lanier Bridge from Brunswick to Jekyll Island. It is a beautiful bridge span.
From the Jekyll Island website: After private plantation ownership ended with the Dubignon family, the island was sold to a group of very wealthy individuals who formed the Jekyll Island Club, including family names such as Rockefeller, Pulitzer, Vanderbilt, Crane, Goodyear, Macy, JP Morgan. and others. One-sixth of the world’s wealth vacationed on Jekyll Island at the time. The meetings leading to the development of the Federal Reserve Bank were held at the Jekyll Island Club. Jekyll Island was also a participant in the first transcontinental telephone call on January 25, 1915. In 1946, Jekyll Island was purchased by the state of Georgia and is currently maintained as a state park.
Moss Cottage:
Jekyll Island Club Resort is lined with historic cottages. With 240 acres and 33 historic structures including the resort, the historic district is known as Millionaire’s Village. I know it will be fun to stay here for a few days. The property also has many dining options.
Goodyear Cottage
Mistletoe Cottage
Indian Mound Cottage
Another view of the same cottage. The property is surrounded by magnificent old trees like masterpieces. I love the draping moss, really a lovely sight so simple. The southern landscape is the best.
Dubignon Cottage
Moss, trees, that’s not enough for me.
Jekyll Island Club Resort is truly a step back in time and feels like you’re in a movie when you walk up and take it all in.
Notice the men in white playing croquet on the front lawn. Yes, it’s still a popular game at the Jekyll Island Club.
Complete with an old car that perfectly matches the time period.
They’re doing a big renovation under the front portico and a jackhammer and machines are taking out all the concrete there, so it looks like there’s a big reno going on. We turned around to look inside the hotel. I was determined to have a look inside this time as I missed it last time I was there.
It did not disappoint!
Another look at the exterior of the Jekyll Island Club.
The verandahs are amazing and I can imagine reading a book hanging out here with a cool drink in the summer.
Isn’t it gorgeous? I bet this place gets busy during the summer months.
It’s fun to be here, so maybe we’ll go back and do that someday.
Welcome, let’s jump in!

Inner courtyard.
That moss again! Looking towards the spacious pool.
The pool also looks very nice.
Inside the gazebo adjacent to the dining room.
Beautiful!
Dining room entrance
The grand dining room is absolutely stunning. What a place to dine!
Inside the side door is one of the places to sit and relax.
Going up the stairs.
A fireplace sitting area with a bar in the far corner. It was so amazing inside, my mouth was hanging open. Mark was outside with Daisy and I went out and told her to go in and I went the same way to see it.
Walking around the grounds is very peaceful.
It is one of the cottage buildings on the grounds that has beautiful rooms.
Faith Cottage
Strolling the grounds, you will feel the serenity and peace that this island brings. It has houses and condos, hotels and restaurants, but it feels far away from it all.
What a joy it would be to stay here for a few days, grab a bike and ride around the island.
The Island Sweet Shop is open in the summer, I’m sure.
The building houses the cottage rooms of the hotel. We enjoyed our stroll around the grounds and headed out for a little drive around the island before we headed back over the bridge to St. Louis. Simons.
The trees are very sculpted and beautiful.
We saw an area with a beautiful path leading to a beach walk, so we headed down for a peek. It’s so beautiful! I can see why people want to walk this beach walk.
You can see weathered driftwood from storms and plenty of salt water.
Raising their branches to the sky, they are beautiful in their own way.
It’s definitely worth a stop to see the beach walk and the trees that border it.
We took a minute to document the moment with a family photo. Daisy also had a great time on this trip and we are glad we took her.
I’m not part of the elite, but a visit to the Jekyll Island Club is definitely a treat. I can stay there and pretend I’m rich and famous with no problem. It didn’t feel stuffy at all, so I think we normies are right at home too. Have you been to Jekyll Island and what did you think? It will take more than two hours to see it all, but we are excited to see it! Click on the video above to see everything we saw!
